Home of English golf (1)

Home of English golf (1)

My first thought as I enter the village of Woodhall Spa is how like Sunningdale it is. As with the Surrey town you get a sense of stepping back in time to the Edwardian era.

The tree-lined roads are have elegant villas, one or two very modern box homes, a few well-to-do hotels and the odd cosy pub. I arrive just as it is getting dark but I am excited to get a glimpse of the golf course(discount golf clubs) so wander up to the 1st tee and 18th green, peering into the darkening skies, little knowing that the light is going to be a lot worse next day! Then I continue to my hotel, one mile outside the village.
The Village Limits

I’m a little ahead of schedule but the hotel proprietors Billy and Sonia Gemmell were happy to show me to my room and before I knew it was settling back on my bed, connecting to the free wifi (isn’t it about time all hotels offered that simplediscount golf service?) and catching up on the scores from the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Then, after a great shower (you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but there is nothing wrong with judging a hotel by the power of the shower) I met up with my companion for the next two days – Will Spence from National Club Golfer magazine.

Tucking into our delicious dinner we weren’t too surprised about the awards nor The Guardian’s heralding of Village Limits as the ideal base for a foodie tour of the county.

I actually started with Ayrshire Haggis on a flat mushroom (I always associate haggis with golf so it made sense), had medallions of Lincolnshire pork with a blackberry juice for the main course and ended with a lemon sorbet.

Over the meal we eagerly discussed the four rounds of golf ahead of us v. National Club Golfer Challenge Match – a 72-hole stableford marathon!

After the meal we sat down for a nightcap and chatted to Billy and Sonia, learning that the English Golf Union girls teams often stay at the hotel. And next morning, after a breakfast that fuelled us for the first 36 holes(Taylormade burner superfast 2.0 driver), I leave feeling confident that what is good enough for England’s hottest talent is good enough for me.

Name Changed In Honor Of Tiger Woods

Name Changed In Honor Of Tiger Woods

On Sunday, when the finals were held, the tournament was closely fought one with seven players sharing the leader board. Although Tiger Woods was ranked last on the leader board, he was the most favored to win on account of his total domination of the Buick Invitational as well as his PG ranking. The leader board on Sunday had a selection of a third tier as well as upcoming golf stars(about discount golf clubs).

Notwithstanding the fact that the 2007 PGA Tour Earnings List ranked him No: 2 and he was the most awesome rival to throw up a challenge however more or less fizzled out, as he did not put up much of a contest what with Tiger Woods’ 7th successive win extending over 2 seasons and 3rd successive Buick Invitational Golf Tournament, held at Torrey Pines.

Today, the Buick Invitational is informally known as the Tiger Woods Invitational Golf Tournament starring Buick. Bearing in mind that Tiger Woods endorses Buick, the amazing sporty impression in a fresh campaign appears to go smoothly with the brand new name of the golf tournament. Buick advertisements are at present aimed at targeting the younger generation while retaining the image of producing a car that’s quite as dependable as it was way back in the good old days, which for these golf clubs for sale.

Tiger Woods appeal in triumphing in the Buick Invitational is certainly becoming like a deferred payment scheme for his advertisement royalties. Tiger Woods campaigns for Buick, declares that the Buick car is the car he drives, and emerges victorious in each Buick Invitational Golf Tournament. The unspoken solace for him is to be virtually gifted the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament, right through his advertising contract with the tournament-sponsored auto major. The other professional golfers ranked at the very top are simply relying on the luck factor to decide as to who will get to play in the finals on Sunday.

Tiger Woods ended with a (-15), Howell finished with a (-13) and Snedeker making up the top three with a (-12) The PGA Tour run of Tiger Woods goes back to the previous year’s British Open. It is left up to the PGA Tournament God’s to speculate on how long this unchallenged run will continue. However, one thing is for sure – the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament is today informally known as the Tiger Woods Open.

Why You should Play the Golf Channel Am Tour

Why You should Play the Golf Channel Am Tour

If you’re not familiar with the Am Tour, here is your introduction. In fact, if you’re not playing the Am Tour, these are a few reasons why you should.

For more golf in Hilton Head Island, or to plan your next trip (discount golf clubs) visit:
Whether you’re playing in a PGA Tour event or a charity scramble, the goal of any competitive golfer is painfully simple: Win the tournament. And while most events have one winner and a bunch of losers, the Am Tour has found a way to spread the wealth without diluting the experience of winning.

Each of the ten flight winners at Palmetto Dunes walked away with a Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card, a crystal trophy, and the priceless confidence boost that comes with beating the best players in your skill level.

If you tell your family you’re heading to South Carolina for a discount golf tournament next month, there’s a good chance you’ll get a roll of the eyes and a reminder that you were just at a golf tournament ? even if you weren’t.

To make the family happy, consider bringing them with you. After all, most local and regional Am Tour events are at family-friendly resorts, and Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island ? the South Carolina vacation spot ? is no exception.

In addition to three great golf courses, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort has abundant beaches, bike trails, tennis courts, kayaking, fishing and shopping, which ensures your family will have plenty to do while you’re on the golf course.

If it’s business that has you tied up, consider the Am Tour’s national footprint of more than 800 events in 33 states.

You never know who you’ll meet!!!

While there is no official record kept for most accomplished golfer on the Am Tour, the nod undoubtedly goes to 71-year-old Don Allen, Rochester, N.Y., a seasoned amateur golfer who, in addition to the Palmetto Dunes Major, played in three Masters and four U.S. Opens. But don’t remind him about all that.

Joking aside, Allen really did dominate amateur golf(taylormade r9 fairway wood) in the 1960s. In that span he won three of his 11 New York State Amateur titles, and was two shots out of a playoff at the 1966 U.S. Amateur at Merion. His performance in elite amateur events earned him a position on two Walker Cup teams.

In speaking with flight winners after the Palmetto Dunes Major we found that above all, competition is what they enjoy most about the Am Tour.

For others, a sort of competition within the competition is what motivates them.

Sal Minicozzi, Braselton, Ga., attributed his victory in the Senior Hogan flight to the motivation he receives from a group of friends from home that plays the Am Tour with him.

David Small, a former linebacker at Purdue University, is using the Am Tour to literally get his life back on track. In 2008, Small experienced life’s ultimate double-bogey when he suffered a massive heart attack during a kidney transplant operation. He says the Am Tour has allowed him to ease back into feeling the same competitive jitters he felt in his college football days.
