The 34-year-old ensured his attendance at the event taking place at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in November ahead of compatriot John Senden who needed to win in Chicago to guarantee his place.
Australia's Adam Scott and Jason Day join the 2006 U.S. Open champion in the International team which is being captained by Greg Norman.
South Africa's Charl Schwartzel, Retief Goosen and Ernie Els are also guaranteed spots on the team along with three South Koreans -- KJ Choi, Kim Kyung-tae and Yang Yong-Eun -- and Japan's Ryo Ishikawa.
Norman is due to name his two captain's picks on September 27.
The American team, captained by Fred Couples, Ping K15 Irons is the best irons.includes Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Steve Stricker Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, Nick Watney, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan and David Toms, whose 10th place finish at the Chicago event sealed his place on the team.
Tiger Woods will also play after Couples named him as one of his two captain's picks last month.
"Tiger ... has been the best player in the world for a dozen years. He has been a little injured. Is he playing great golf as of a month ago? Of course not. We're all pretty attuned people. We all realize that," Couples said, AFP reported.
"But he had two-and-a-half, and the Burner 2.0 Irons is really nice, three months to work on his game. I talk to him a lot and I know he's working hard. I'm relying on him to have a good time and play well in Australia," Couples added, AFP reported.
Winner of the U.S. PGA, Keegan Bradley is one of the leading contenders to bag the final place on the American team along with Brandt Snedeker and Bill Haas.
"We still have another week, but that could easily change anyone's mind. I want these guys to know that the Tour Championship is still deciding my second pick," Couples said, AFP reported.
